Artist Statement
I stood in a patch of wildflower seeds behind the new Canning firehall. The moon was beginning to rise opposite a setting sun. Getting low to the ground, I found there was an enchanting stillness, full of comfort and serenity. As the sky darkened, an ancient relationship between the elements revealed itself. It was lively, expressive, and haunting. At the same time, it was also calm and secretive. This complexity was unexpected in this seemingly desolate place.
The seeds are dormant. They wait. Months may pass before they travel on the wind, fall to the ground, sprout and grow again. Each seed knows exactly what to do. Here, in the surrender of December, dormancy is a strength and absolutely necessary. Surrendering doesn’t mean giving up. I now know it as a very powerful way to connect with Source.
The moon acts as a soft mirror of the sun, diffusing its light. Like a dreamworld welcoming a state of rest. There is no doing here, only being.
Awareness fades in and out. All parts of us need to be allowed to exist, even those that are blurry, or out of focus. We can be greatly affected by forces on the periphery of our awareness, or by the things that we try to bury. Feelings may be hard to access, or feel abstract, but when we accept ourselves as we are, including the bruises and scars, we become bound for wholeness. Allow the blurriness to complete the image. This series invites us in, and gives gentle permission to remember our dreams.
